Many people assume mold pricing is arbitrary. In reality, a mold quotation follows a clear cost structure. If you understand this structure, you can immediately tell whether a quote is reasonable—or risky.

Below is a transparent, factory-level breakdown of injection mold costs, based on real manufacturing practice in 2025. All RMB prices are converted to USD for international reference (1 USD ≈ 7 RMB).


1. Design & Engineering Fees (5–15%)

Before any steel is cut, the mold must be fully engineered. This stage determines whether the mold will succeed—or fail.

What affects design cost?

  • Part geometry complexity

  • Tolerance requirements

  • Use of sliders, lifters, unscrewing mechanisms, or complex parting lines

Typical engineering time:

  • Simple molds: 1–3 working days

  • Complex molds: 5–10+ working days
